Keep Moving
Varicose veins are common during pregnancy because of the extra weight you carry. Avoid standing for long periods of time. Believe it or not, getting healthy levels of exercise can also help you. Keep legs, ankles and feet moving through the day. Walking is also helpful.

Eating Right
Small meals taken frequently and avoiding spicy and high-fat foods help to deal with heartburn. A daily intake of aloe vera is good for the gut and sleeping propped up on pillows may also help. Eating potassium rich foods such as fruit and vegetables can also help to reduce water retention. If you suffer from water retention or oedema, don't make the mistake of cutting back on your fluids. It is important that you take between 2.5-3.5 litres of water a day to flush out the excess water.

Relieving Cramp
Eat something salty before going to bed. When you have the cramps, stretch your leg and flex your toes towards you or gently massage the area.

Pain Buster
Low back ache can be relieved by getting down on all fours whenever you can. You can do this when you need to clear things away or pick up things from the floor. On the other hand, upper back ache can be reduced by rolling your shoulders back in a circular motion.

Pressure Pointers
As the area around your hips starts getting ready in preparation for birth, you will feel uncomfortable at the joint at the front of the pelvis. Make an effort to keep your legs together when doing things. For example, when you need to turn over in bed to get more comfortable, keep your knees firmly together because the ligaments around your hips and pelvis have become loose. However, this condition stops after birth. The baby's head can also cause pressure on the veins in the pelvic floor. Do pelvic floor exercises and do not strain yourself during your toilet visits.

Stretch and Turn
If you feel numbness or pins and needles in your hands and fingers, you could be suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome. Hand exercises are very effective. Stretch and relax your fingers, rotate your wrists. Avoid doing the same hand movements.

Get the Right Fit
Pregnancy can cause breasts to become tender and painful. Get the right bra size for better support.

Cool Off
Calamine lotion kept in the fridge is a great way to treat itching skin. Lukewarm baths and loose cotton clothes naturally tones down the effect. Avoid stimulating foods like coffee and chocolate.
Women are known to cope very well with pain. But remember, extreme and prolonged pain or discomfort is not normal. Call your doctor for advice if things don't feel right.
